The handbrake on the GD427 is on the drivers right, between the seat and the door. The handbrake lever is a Ford unit that mounts on a GD supplied bracket that also clamps the operating cable.
Bracket is positioned and the mounting holes drilled.
The cable exits the internal part of the body behind the drivers seat and must be sealed at this point to prevent water getting in. The grp is very thick at this point, therefore decided to use a compression gland rather than a grommet or silicone. I used a garden tap flange to provide the compression gland body.
Like so, this is outside the car, looking forward from the rear wheel arch.
The handbrake cable has a crimped eye that is coupled to the handbrake lever by a clevis pin, the holes in the handbrake lever were slightly different sizes, so drilled them out to the same size and made bushes to hold the clevis pin.
When trial assembled, the crimped cable ring was catching on thehandbrake lever and pushing the cable down against the cable outer sleeve. Therefore..
Cut away the lever to provide free movement.
Fitted a microswitch and actuator to show when the handbrake is released, (I am not sure if this is an IVA requirement but have fitted it just in case).
Finally painted the handbrake bracket.
