Gear Stick Change

A minor irrigation when driving was the position of the gear stick, which was too far away from the steering wheel. I see that many Cobras have bent or cranked gear sticks to solve this problem. The gear stick is made from 12mm steel rod which needs to be heated to red heat before bending and could be difficult to get the bends just right. I tried a different approach, first cutting several slots.

Then, cutting and bending until it was right.

Then silver soldered the gaps and trial fitted.

Tack welded the plate to bolt to the gearbox.

Completed weld

Few more trial fittings, filing and finishing

OK it looks a bit odd, but it's so much better when driving.
